Mariella Rickel:

I am a 7th grade student at The Archer School for Girls. I do lots of ballroom dance and other types of dance, too.  I also like to sing and play tennis. My parents are Nancy and Ken Rickel. I'm having my Bat Mitzvah with my twin sister Isabella. I have three older brothers Brandon, Alexander, and Jason who all had their Bar Mitzvahs at Temple Emanuel, too.

For my mitzvah project, I worked at Food Forward. It was wonderful to see how working at a Farmers Market and collecting the very fresh, but unsold food could feed so many people for a whole week at a time - from little children, to abused women, to the elderly. You gather the food as the Farmers Market is about to close by handing out many boxes. Once the boxes are filled are collected, the food is weighed and the different farmers are properly credited. This food is now available to the many soup kitchens, shelters, and hungry people in the area. It feels great to help so many people in need and the experience made me realize how lucky I am to have food easily available to me.

I would like to thank Shelly Kamara , Rabbi Aaron, Rabbi Bassin and Cantor Lizzie Weiss for their help in preparing me for my Bat Mitzvah and teaching me so many important things about Judaism and making this experience so amazing and filling me with such pride about my religion and what it really means to achieve this goal.

“You've gotta dance like there's nobody watching,

Love like you'll never be hurt,

Sing like there's nobody listening,

And live like it's heaven on earth.”
