Temple Emanuel of Beverly Hills and Greater Los Angeles

Temple Emanuel of Beverly Hills is one of Southern California's premier Reform Jewish congregations. We are a proud synagogue serving West and Greater Los Angeles. Our temple community consists of multi-cultural, traditional, and non-traditional families; as well as single, interfaith, gay, and single-parent members.

My name is Dylan Bernstein and I will be called to the Torah on my birthday, May 7, 2016, as a Bar Mitzvah. I am a 7th Grader at Paul Revere Middle School. I like to play basketball, tennis and golf. I also enjoy acting and have a passion for music both as a bass player and singer. I have a sister named Erica who is 8. My parents are named Marni and Jeff. My mom’s grandfather founded his own temple, Temple Beth Shalom, down in Long Beach! My mitzvah project is different from most. My mitzvah project is that I have acted as the president of my Community Service Club at school this year. I have helped the world through doing a candy drive for Operation Gratitude, giving the prize money to a military family with a kid who has cancer. I have also done a button drive to give clean water to a village in Haiti. In addition, my club done a drive for Baby2Baby and has been to WeDay, a convention for community service. I would like to thank my parents, grandparents, Rabbi Aaron, Rabbi Bassin, Cantor Weiss, and Sarah Rosenbaum for help with my Bar Mitzvah.

Hello, my name is Sophie Dardashti and I am in 7th grade at Berkeley Hall School.  I love playing basketball and enjoy photography.

For my mitzvah project I have chosen to volunteer at Sunrise Senior Living in Beverly Hills.  I chose Sunrise after visiting a family friend and noticing how happy she was that we spend time with her. I hope through my mitzvah project I can put a few smiles for the seniors at Sunrise Living .

I’m in the 7th grade at Milken Community Schools. I love tennis and skiing, spending time with my family and friends. I have two older sisters, Clare and Bryce…and two dogs, Cooper and Teddy. My parents are Lauren Beck and Kevin Mills.

For my mitzvah project I’m working with Imagine LA, an amazing organization that places families with mentors, as they transition from homelessness to self-sufficiency. My assignment is to find opportunities for enjoyment in LA that a family can have, without having to spend any money

I would like to thank Rabbi Geller...she's been wonderful to me and my family.....it has meant so much...Rabbi Aaron and Rabbi Bassin for their inspiration and guidance...and Cantor Weiss for her patience ...and incredibly beautiful voice, as I prepare for my Bar Mitzvah.

My name is Lucy Rosen and I will be called to the Torah on January 23, 2016, as a bat mitzvah.

I am currently a seventh grader at Beverly Vista and my interests include soccer, fashion and animals.  For my bat mitzvah project, I have been volunteering at SPOT, an animal rescue group that specializes in rescuing pregnant mother dogs and puppy litters from shelters.  SPOT also has a boutique that sells all kinds of pet supplies and products to support their efforts in saving the lives of puppies and mother dogs.  I also help my mom in fostering and caring for senior dogs and very young, at-risk kittens in our home.

I would like to thank Rabbi Bassin and Cantor Weiss for all their caring and support through my bat mitzvah preparation.  I would especially like to thank Laurie Goodman for all her amazing assistance and help as I prepare for my bat mitzvah.  I have truly enjoyed working with her and discussing all aspects of this very important step in my Jewish education.  Finally, I would like to thank my mom and siblings for their love and support throughout this process.
