Temple Emanuel of Beverly Hills and Greater Los Angeles

Temple Emanuel of Beverly Hills and Greater Los Angeles

Temple Emanuel of Beverly Hills is one of Southern California's premier Reform Jewish congregations. We are a proud synagogue serving West and Greater Los Angeles. Our temple community consists of multi-cultural, traditional, and non-traditional families; as well as single, interfaith, gay, and single-parent members.

I am in the 7th grade at the Los Angeles Center for Enriched Studies (LACES). Dancing is my passion. I take lessons in tap, ballet, hip-hop, jazz and lyrical and am  a member of a dance company. I also like to play the guitar and sing; I'm a member of Temple Emanuel's "Soul Singers". Of course, I also like spending time with my friends. My mom is Rosalind Marks and I have an older brother, Logan, who is 20.

My mitzvah project is volunteering at the SOVA Community Food and Resource Program. This program is dedicated to alleviating hunger in Los Angeles. SOVA really makes a difference to the 9,000 people it helps feed each month.

Thank you so much to Cantor Lizzie Weiss, Rabbi Jonathan Aaron and Rabbi Sarah Bassin for all their help in getting me ready for my Bat Mitzvah.

I am a seventh grade student at Paul Revere Charter Middle School where I am an active member of the Community Service Club. I enjoy spending quality time with cats and dogs, drawing, and designing video games. My parents are Elizabeth and David Spivak. I’m easy to pick out of a crowd (I’m the girl with the cat ears).

For my mitzvah project, I volunteer at No-Kill Los Angeles (NKLA), an organization dedicated to preventing pets from having to die in a shelter simply because they do not have a home. I assist NKLA each weekend at the West Los Angeles location by cleaning cat condos, administering cat enrichment, and washing cat bowls as necessary.  Since the launch of NKLA in 2012, the number of pets being killed in L.A. city shelters has decreased by 82%. “Together we can Save Them All.”

I thank Cantor Lizzie Weiss, Rabbi Sarah Bassin, Rabbi Laura Geller, Rabbi Jonathan Aaron, Tutor Josh Goldberg, Tutor Laurie Goodman, and Teacher Jodi Shapiro for helping me become a Bat Mitzvah.

My name is Joshua Breslavsky and I am in the 7th grade at Horace Mann Elementary School.  My parents are Lana and Jack and I have a 16-year old brother, Daniel.

My favorite subject in school is math and I enjoy playing and watching soccer.

For my Bar Mitzvah project I am choosing to raise money for underprivileged kids to play soccer. I would like to help provide uniforms and equipment for them.

I would like to thank Rabbi Aaron, Cantor Lizzie Weiss, Josh Goldberg, and Judy Kandel.  I would also like to thank my mom, dad, brother and grandparents for their love and support.

My name is  Ryan Mendelsohn and my birth date is 01.23.4 - cool, huh? I am in the 7th grade at The Buckley School and my favorite subject is math. I don't have any brothers or sisters, and I kind of like it that way.

I play most sports, and enjoy basketball the most.  I am a good student, however, I don't love to study. My favorite hobby is collecting sneakers, but now it is also my first business. I buy and sell cool ones!

For my Bar Mitzvah project I am raising money for the Israeli Guide Dog Center. The center trains dogs to help soldiers who have lost their sight from the many wars in Israel.  I chose this because I love all dogs, and know what wonderful friends they can be.

I am grateful to my parents, Michelle and Jordin, for their love and support, and want to thank Rabbi Aaron, Rabbi Bassin and Kalanit Kamara for helping me become a Bar Mitzvah.
