Offering Healing Prayers And Blessings

Wednesday, April 18

1:00-2:30 pm, Belle Chapel (300 N Clark Drive)

Dispel the mystique around offering healing prayers and blessings by learning what our tradition teaches. Participants will practice with one another during this workshop so that they can offer them to their family, friends and community members. This workshop will be led by Temple Emanuel Rabbinic Intern, Eric Rosenstein and Devorah Servi and is open to the public.

"Either Companionship or Death": Jewish Tools for Nurturing Friendship

Thursday, April 19

11:30 am-1:30 pm, Belle Chapel (300 N Clark Drive)

Research shows that loneliness is as dangerous to your health as smoking 15 cigarettes a day. What does Judaism teach us about friendship as an antidote to loneliness that can help us sustain nurturing relationships and distance ourselves from toxic ones? This workshop will be led by Rabbi Laura Geller and is open to the public. A light lunch will be served.

Chewing on What Matters: A Conversation over Brunch about Ethical Wills

Sunday, April 22

11:00 am-1:00 pm, 8844 Burton Way

A critical way that we pass down our values and our identity, Ethical Wills are a deeply significant part of advanced care planning that often get overlooked. IKAR has worked with a team of experts in the field to create Jewishly themed content meant to help individuals begin thinking about their Ethical Wills, as well as the resources necessary to draft these important documents.

Infused with Jewish wisdom and Jewish ritual, there will be five opportunities to participate in Death Over Dinner: Jewish Ethical Wills Edition.  Check the individual webpage on the date that you would like to have a discussion about Death Over Dinner for the specific location that evening.  These dinners will offer participants a chance to tap into the core of what they believe and the values that matter most to them, over lighthearted conversation and a warm communal meal.

Beyond these five communal meals during the Festival, individuals can find all the resources on this and other topics needed to host Death Over Dinner in their homes and communities on the project’s DIY website: http://deathoverdinnerjewishedition.org/

Other “Death Over Dinner” events in the Festival take place on

April 17, April 24, April 26. Check the calendar for details and sign up.

DoD Jewish Edition was created by IKAR and Reboot and is supported by generous grants from the Jewish Community Foundation of Los Angeles and the Jewish Ethical Wills Project, JCC Manhattan

Limitations of Healing and Care

Wednesday, April 25

1:00 pm-2:30 pm, Family Center Room (8844 Burton Way)

As caring community members, how can we balance the tension between offering care and acknowledging limitations? Explore establishing healthy boundaries related to these limitations. This workshop will be led by Temple Emanuel Rabbinic Intern, Eric Rosenstein and Devorah Servi and is open to the public.

Our clergy is producing and performing a final concert with the Temple Emanuel Spark Band, Soul Singers, and Junior Cantors.
