SISTERHOOD
AT EMANUEL

Join the Sisterhood on Saturday, December 6th, from 4:00–6:30 PM for a warm, sensory-rich pre-Havdalah gathering as we bring back Stop and Smell the Spices. Together. Before our community Havdalah Sound Bath led by Rabbi Aaron, we’ll enjoy light refreshments, a sweet wine tasting, and two hands-on creative activities: crafting your own Havdalah spice bags and making a homemade set of Hanukkah candles to take home.
WHY SPICES?
In Jewish tradition, spices help us transition from the holiness of Shabbat back into the rhythm of the new week. They:
-
Comfort the “loss” of Shabbat, soothing us as the extra Shabbat soul — the neshama yetera — departs.
-
Awaken our senses, gently bringing us back to weekday awareness.
-
Carry Shabbat’s sweetness forward, reminding us to bring peace and intention into the coming days.
-
Complete the Havdalah ritual, which engages taste, smell, sight, and sound to make the moment of transition truly felt.
During the program, you’ll learn about these traditions while making your own fragrant spice sachet — a beautifully personal keepsake for future Havdalah moments. You’ll also have the opportunity to craft your own Hanukkah candles, adding a creative and meaningful touch to the upcoming holiday.
Enjoy a sweet wine tasting throughout the gathering, complementing the sensory experience and offering another way to savor the sweetness of Shabbat as it gently recedes.
AFTERWARD: HAVDALAH SOUND BATH
Following the reception, we invite everyone to join us for a calming and immersive Havdalah Sound Bath led by Rabbi Aaron. Let the melodies, vibrations, and ritual elements guide you from Shabbat into the week with grounding, clarity, and renewal.
