Mitzvah Corps

Temple Emanuel Mitzvah Corps

Welcome to Temple Emanuel’s Mitzvah Corps! The next step in our many years of Tikkun Olam initiatives, and led by Cantor Lizzie Weiss, this group will combine our caring and social action programming. From meal trains to care for our community here at home, to lunch drives for those experiencing food insecurity across the city, supporting Israel across the globe, to caring for refugees at our border, there are so many ways to help heal our world.

One of the most meaningful traditions of the joyous festival of Purim is the practice of Mishloach Manot, the sending of gifts to family, friends and those in need. At Temple Emanuel our Mitzvah Corps (our Tikkun Olam TEAM) combines our caring and social action programming.

They lead our community in charitable giving and engagement initiatives, as we create community and help those in Israel, in our city, and at home in our temple community.

As we approach the holiday of Purim, we come together for our Yom Chesed, Day of Kindness, on Sunday, March 9 at 11:30 a.m.

HOW DO I PARTICIPATE?

  1. Donate to our annual Mishloach Manot fundraiser! Select family and friends in the Temple Emanuel community to Sponsor A Mitzvah in their name!

The proceeds that we raise will be used to purchase the items needed for our Yom Chesed activities, and further the work of our annual Mitzvah Corp initiatives. To make your selections, lookout for an email from [email protected] via Comsend.

Join us promptly at 11:30 a.m. on Sunday, March 9 for an opening blessing and light lunch then participate in meaningful projects to give back those in need. And don’t forget to grab some of our “Wicked Awesome” hamantaschen too!

We hope that this year you will donate to our annual Mishloach Manot fundraiser and sponsor a mitzvah in honor of your loved ones, community, and Israel.

IN ISRAEL

We are working with the Israeli Non Profit Organization, Smiles for the Kids. Smiles for the Kids is a grassroots initiative with a mission to bring happiness and comfort to families impacted by hardship due to illness, poverty, stress, family situations or ongoing conflicts.

We will help produce a welcome home carnival for the families of an Israeli community called Shlomi, as they reintegrate and return to their severely damaged community in the north. These families have been evacuated and displaced since the beginning of the war. In addition to sponsoring the carnival we will be donating gifts for the children and wrapping and decorating the gifts during the Yom Chesed Day of Action.

Smiles for Kids, have also connected us to IDF Unit 802 part of the 98th division of paratroopers, who have been at the forefront of every major action since the beginning of the war. They have been recalled to their duties through November. These paratroopers have specifically requested essential food and personal items which we will supply along with notes from the community.

Smiles for Kids have requested that we help the soldiers that they visit and support at Sheba Hospital Tel Hashomer. These soldiers are long term injured residents of the hospital. They have requested Lego Kits and Ear buds to help keep them busy and comforted during their recovery. On Yom Chesed, we will be wrapping the gifts and decorating the packages which our partners will hand directly to the soldiers.

Remember to sponsor a mitzvah on behalf of your loved ones during this worthwhile program, select friends and family in the community and send good wishes that we will share with our temple community on your behalf by Friday March. 14, 2025

  1. Sponsor this program by selecting friends and family in the community and sending good wishes with special notes written here. Your sponsorship supports our social action endeavors!
