Cantor Weiss: Back from Israel and Join Me August 9

Cantor Lizzie Weiss

Back from Israel

I spent the second half of my trip posting “stories” on my Instagram, which many of you follow. The truth is, I have been trying to put my thoughts on paper for the last two weeks since I landed back in the States. But every day leads to new feelings, thoughts, and emotions. From the continued war with Hamas, to this weekend’s tragic murder of 12 Druze teens, to the current state of affairs in our own country, we have all had a lot to process. What is even more difficult, is that it is hard to answer one question about Israel without talking about the upcoming elections in the States. And it is hard to talk about the upcoming elections without speaking about a candidate or party’s stance on Israel.

Join Me August 9

On August 9 I will give an important sermon where I will highlight the unbelievably moving, joyous and also tragic things I bore witness to in Israel. I hope to give you all a sense of exactly what the majority of Israelis who I was able to speak to, really feel about the war, the hostages, the government, and antisemitism worldwide. I could list the dozens of planned events that I attended, but nothing would be as powerful as the memories I have of speaking to everyday people in Israel. From our waitress in Ramat HaNegev, to our hotel chef, to the leader of Kerem Shalom Kibbutz, to the daughters of parents who were murdered on October 7, the stories I heard, and the life experiences I was privileged to hear about, have swirled throughout my mind, body, and soul for weeks now.

I invite you to join me on August 9 to hear more about my journey. Over the last month, I have had many of you reach out to me to hear about the trip, and so I also plan to hold a few “wine and cheese” hours to show my pictures and get into real detail about each day of my trip. Please stay tuned to hear more about those plans. I am excited to be back at work and ready to see you all this week for Shabbat!
