Gracie Langer – May 1, 2021

Temple Emanuel of Beverly Hills

I am a 7th grader at Beverly Vista Middle School. I have varied interests, some of which include playing flute, cavorting with my two dogs, Rosie and Honey, riding my bike and hanging out with my friends. My parents are Stefani and Bruce Langer. My mom and aunt also had their Bat Mitzvah service at Temple Emanuel and my grandmother had an adult Bat Mitzvah here, which makes this day even more special.

For my Bat Mitzvah project, I chose to advocate for animals, who do not have a human voice, by researching alternative methods of product testing. I was fortunate enough to have an interview with an official at The Center for Alternatives to Animal Testing (CAAT) at The Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, who further educated me on this topic. In turn, I was able present to my religious school class alternative testing methods to prevent unnecessary cruelty to animals.

I would like to thank Rabbi Aaron, Rabbi Lutz, Rabbi Bassin, Cantor Weiss, Shelly Kamara and Karen Porper for sharing their wisdom and for their patient guidance in leading me to this important day.

People begin to become successful the minute they decide to be.
