Emily Braer Bat Mitzvah – October 9, 2021

Temple Emanuel of Beverly Hills

I am an 8th grader at Summit View West. My parents are Rebecca and Jeffrey Braer. My mom is a Special Education Teacher and my dad develops theme parks. My 8 year old sister Jasmine, loves cats and unicorns. My spirit animal is the elephant. I enjoy doing art, inventing things, baking treats, playing sports, and going to the beach. I have a unique bond with all 4 of my grandparents. In the future I hope to be an Interior Decorator and flip houses with my Grandma.

For my Bat Mitzvah project I partnered with JQ International a Gay-Straight alliance for Jewish teens. I led an open discussion about inclusivity and arranged a guest speaker from JQ to have a dialogue with my B’nai Mitzvah class. I truly believe it is important for everyone to be accepted and treated equally.

I would like to thank Rabbi Aaron, Rabbi Bassin, Rabbi Lutz, Cantor Weiss, Kalanit Kamara, and Karen Porper for helping me with my Bat Mitzvah studies. Lots of love and thanks to my friends and family, too!

My rapper name is ‘Chocolate Hamentashen’ because I’m Black and Jewish! Emily Braer (age 3)
