Holy Envy | OnBeing Podcast featuring Rabbi Sarah Bassin

Temple Emanuel of Beverly Hills

On Being takes up the big questions of meaning with scientists and theologians, artists and teachers. This episode was recorded at the URJ’s biennial in boston and features Rabbi Sarah Bassin and imam Abdullah Antepli.

It felt strange after only a year working in Muslim-Jewish relations to have become a national expert on the matter.  But I became an expert in large part because there was such a void of successful engagement between these two religious communities.  Most attempts fell apart because they erred on one of two extremes – they either never talked about the difficult stuff or they ONLY talked about the conflict.  NewGround helped forge a new way forward that built resilient relationships that could handle the difficult conversations that would inevitably arise between Muslims and Jews.  I feel privileged to take the importance of that way of thinking into so many new facets at Temple Emanuel.
