Maya Gibson’s Bat Mitzvah, June 2, 2018

Temple Emanuel of Beverly Hills

Hi, I am Maya Gibson. I am in 7th grade and I am 13 years old. I attend City Charter Middle School. I have been a soccer player since I was 5 and currently I play for Culver City Football Club. I am also a huge fan of art and all things involving creativity.

My parents’ names are Karen and Terel Gibson and I have a sister named Aliza who is eleven years old. I have a dog named Lu.

For the past couple of months, I have been working with Tree People to improve our environment. I have planted trees, cleaned up parks, and placed mulch in native plants. I am raising money and will donate the proceeds to Tree People. After working with Tree People, I have developed a new interest in protecting the environment.

I would like to thank Rabbi Aaron, Rabbi Bassin, Cantor Weiss, Jodi Shapiro, my religious school teacher, and Shelly Kamara, my Hebrew tutor.

The future belongs to the curious. The ones who are not afraid to try it, explore it, poke at it, question it, and turn it inside out.”
