Phillip Turkat’s Bar Mitzvah – February 2, 2019

Temple Emanuel of Beverly Hills

My name is Phillip Turkat. I am in 7th grade and attend El Rodeo. Last year, I
earned my black belt in karate. I enjoy skiing, tennis and swimming. As a
member of Boy Scout troop 50, I participate in the backpacking, hiking,
camping and marksmanship programs.

I would like to do my Bar Mitzvah project at ChaiVillageLA. I want to meet with
the members of the Village and teach them to play the ukulele. We will be
musical and have fun. I learned that focusing on creativity and art will expand the right side of our brains and I want to share this experience with the members of the Village.

I would like to thank Rabbi Aaron, Cantor Weiss, Kalanit Kamara my Hebrew Club teacher, Shelly Kamara my Bar Mitzvah tutor, and especially, my mom, for helping me prepare for this special day. I would also like to thank my mom and grandmother for their love and support.

“I’ve always believed that a lot of the trouble in the world would disappear if
we were talking to each other instead of about each other.”
― Ronald Reagan
