Zoey Kahan Bat Mitzvah – January 30, 2021

Temple Emanuel of Beverly Hills

Hi, my name is Zoey and I am a 7th grade student at CWC Mar Vista.  My favorite subjects in school are dance, math, and science. My parents are Laura and Ronnie Kahan, and I have two younger siblings Samantha and Asher Kahan, and my dog, MishMish. I love to dance and hang out with friends and family. I have quite a large family. On my Dad’s side you have my Sabba v’ Savta, plus my Aunt Tali and my three cousins, Henry, Jack & Olivia, On my Mom’s side you have Gamma & Steve and Mamma Suni & Pop-pop, 2 uncles, John & Tom, and 2 aunts, Sarah & Hannah. That’s not even half of it!

For my Bat Mitzvah project I want to feed the homeless because it always fills my heart seeing the smiles on peoples faces, and I hope that I can put a smile on someone’s face by helping them. When I was a kid, I remember filling some paper bags with a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, an apple and mini water bottle. I would beg my parents to drive me around town and look for any homeless people.  When we found someone, I would hop out of the car and hand them the meal, but I made sure they didn’t have a peanut allergy first. I will never forget the smile on their faces- it was the best feeling ever.

I would like to thank my parents, family, and friends, Rabbi Aaron, Cantor Weiss, my tutor, Shelly Kamara, and my mentor, Laurie Goodman for helping me prepare for my Bat Mitzvah.
